For more than 15 years, Dr. Arthur Burnett traveled as a visiting professor to The University of the West Indies for the urology training programs in Trinidad and Jamaica. Gaining additional insight into certain unmet needs within the urologic training program in the Caribbean, Dr. Burnett began to increase the frequency of his visits to the islands, volunteering his time to provide cognitive and technical skill development, conduct grand rounds during which clinical cases of selected patients were reviewed in detail, perform highly specialized surgical procedures that expanded the level of care available on-island, assist with research protocol development, and mentor both the urology residents in training and practicing physicians. As a result of these interactions, Dr. Burnett founded UroMissionsWorks, Inc. (a tax-exempt, not-for-profit, (501(c)(3) charitable organization) in 2017 as a means to continue and expand this work.
