In many parts of the world, patients with serious urologic conditions go untreated, not because treatment doesn’t exist, but because the physicians who could provide it have never had access to the training required. That is the gap UroMissionsWorks was created to close.
This initiative funds the mission travel, logistical coordination, and on-the-ground resources that make it possible for our volunteer urologic surgeons to reach partner institutions in the Caribbean, Africa, and South America. When our surgeons travel, they bring not just their skills, but also procedures, knowledge, and standards of care that stay long after the mission ends.
Your contribution to this initiative directly supports the physical presence of expert urologists in underserved regions and the advanced surgical capabilities they leave behind.
UroMissionsWorks was founded in 2017 by Dr. Arthur L. Burnett, II, a Professor of Urology at Johns Hopkins with more than 30 years of experience and a longstanding commitment to medical education in underserved communities. What began as individual visits to the University of the West Indies in Jamaica and Trinidad grew into a structured, expanding mission operating across the Caribbean, Africa, and South America.
Our model is built on a straightforward principle: the most effective way to improve urologic healthcare in a region is to train the physicians already working there. Rather than providing temporary relief, we build permanent capacity through hands-on surgical training, mentorship, grand rounds, and collaborative research that uplift the entire standard of care at each partner institution.
Today, UroMissionsWorks continues this work entirely through volunteerism and donor support. Our physicians give their time. Your donation makes the mission possible.
